Brunnylol - Smart Bookmarking + Searching Tool

How to install brunnylol

To install brunnylol, you need to add it as your default search engine. Google "how to change default search engine" for whatever browser you use. In chromium browsers, you go to settings and scroll down until you find search engines. Set the name to whatever you want (I suggest brunnylol) and set the keyword to whatever you want (I suggest bl).

Then, put the following as your search engine: https://brunnylol.jrodal.com/search?q=%s. You might need to change the %s to something else, depending on your browser (e.g. I think qutebrowser might use {}).

By default, brunnylol will search google if you forget to provide an alias. If you wish to change this, pass the default=ALIAS_HERE parameter when specifying your search engine. For example, here is a search engine that will default to duckduckgo instead of google: https://brunnylol.jrodal.com/search?q=%s&default=d

How to use brunnylol once it's installed

tldr; type ALIAS QUERY (eg yt minecraft videos, where "yt" is the alias and "minecraft videos" is the query.)

Brunnylol has a few concepts to understand: bookmarks, aliases, and queries. A bookmark is the site and/or search engine you wish to use. For example, youtube.com is a bookmark. An alias is the shortname for a bookmark. For example, yt is an alias for the youtube.com bookmark. A query is the input you provide after the alias. For example, searching yt minecraft videos searches the youtube.com bookmark using the yt alias with "minecraft videos" as the query.

Some bookmarks don't support queries. For example, typing just sis will take you to the University of Virginia's student information service. Bookmarks that also support queries don't require a query either - for example, you can search just yt to go to the youtube homepage if you wish.

You can see a list of aliases by searching help.
